De negerin van Rembrandt

Duo exhibition with Rembrandt van Rijn (1606-1669) at Kunsthal Rotterdam, 2007.
The director of Kunsthal, Wim Pijbes, invited me to make a series based on Rembrandt’s etching La negresse couchée, 1658 and to do research solving the question: Is the woman portrayed in the etching really African or might she have been European?.
The presentation consists of eight black and white photographs together with the original etching.
In 2019, in the exhibition All the Rembrandts at the Rijksmuseum the title has been changed from La negresse couchée to Reclining Female Nude.
